Pond and Entrance Road built by Monomoy Inc., in Rappahannock County, Virginia

Country Estate Pond and Entrance Road

Monomoy Services, Inc. is a full-service excavation company serving country estate owners and residents of Rappahannock County, Virginia since 1988.

Originally founded in 1656, the currently existing Rappahannock County was founded by an act of the Virginia General Assembly in 1833.  The county is named for the Rappahannock River that separates it from its neighboring county to the northeast, Fauquier County.  The name Rappahannock comes from the Algonquian word lappihane, meaning “river of quick rising water” or “where the tide ebbs and flows.”

Located just 60 miles west of Washington, DC, Rappahannock County is a place of scenic beauty, rolling green hills, fruit orchards, numerous boutique wineries and horse farms.  It is also home to the world-renowned Inn at Little Washington, a favorite restaurant and weekend retreat for city dwellers and government officials.

Since 1988, discerning Rappahannock residents and landowners who value professionalism, attention to detail and quality work, have chosen Monomoy Services, Inc. for:

  • Site Development
  • Road and Bridge Construction
  • Pond Construction
  • Riding Arena / Riding Ring Construction
  • Grading and Site Preparation
  • Barn Pad Construction
  • Spring Development
  • Trough Development

John Pennington, President of Monomoy Services, Inc., says:

“There are almost no barriers to entry in the competitive business of excavation. There are no minimum education requirements, technical training standards, or experience required to hang out one’s shingle, put a sign on a pickup truck, and declare oneself ready to begin changing residential landscapes for better or for worse. That’s why you should ask for referrals from people you trust before choosing an earth moving company to work on your property.”

Monomoy’s clients have included some of the most talented and well-known builders, architects and landscape architects in the Piedmont Virginia area. Monomoy’s work has appeared on the cover of Architectural Digest and other home and garden publications.
“With all of our capabilities and achievements, I am most proud that we have maintained an efficiency in our operations to allow us to keep our rates in line with others.  Monomoy has a hard-earned reputation for providing quality and value to our clients,” says Pennington.
